These pictures are from a graduation party in 2022. Our customer chose to display her daughter’s cheerleading quilt across the sofa. This way it can be admired at the party and also used if after the festivities someone needs to take a nap! We were able to include her varsity letter in the upper right along with some other special touches such as a uniform tops. The team name is Apple so guess what the quilting had to be — apples! We appreciated seeing this customer New Years Eve to get an early start on a quilt for her son’s graduation in May of 2025.
How long does it take to create a custom quilt? In general the more items you want to include the more time will be needed to make it. At a minimum 1 month. Average is 1.5 – 2 months. Spring graduation and Christmas, Hannukkah are our busiest times and orders are completed on a first come basis.
We can include any quantity. The largest quilt included 152 items on one side of the quilt. The smallest 8!
Getting everything to us way in advance of your deadline means that it will be done in time and you will have it when you need it. I’ve been asked if we can do rush orders. With custom, we don’t really have any rush orders. We don’t want your money to get it done any faster as it takes as long as it takes to get through all of the steps that make a real quilt a quilt and create something very special for you. That includes:
Creating a design for your specific items based on what you like.
A physical layout of your shirts on the wall before sewing begins.
Sourcing the fabrics that you like if we don’t already have them
A long arm quilting design of your choice in the thread of your choice
Binding by hand, the old-fashioned way, for a professional finish
Professional preparation and construction of your quilts from our skilled team of sewers and quilters.
Any other special touches that you would like to further personalize your quilt.
Personal communication throughout the creation of your quilt.
There really are no shortcuts that we take from that list.
How do you get started? First think of what style you like. How do you want your quilt to look? Do you have an overall theme? Do we need to match a certain decor color. How many shirts would you like to include? That can often take some time and thought and is something that only you can do. Here is more on that.
Once you know how you want it to look and the items you want to include contact us. We’ll lead you through everything needed and keep you updated along the way so that your project turns out exactly as you expect.
How much does it cost? There’s more on pricing here.
Do I need an appointment? Appointments do take priority. If you’re in the Atlanta area allow 1 – 1.5 hours to meet with us. If you’d just like to just drop in, text first so that we can let you know if the time if good. If you’re out of the Atlanta area, call. We can work remotely with you without you having to come in. We’ll need you to ship what you’d like to include and a deposit of half of the estimated cost.
The first of the year is a great time to start on a May graduation quilt. Starting early means it will be done early. If you wait until April, that’s getting late for us, but it may still work out if you have a small quilt. In general, the closer it gets to May, the busier we get. There isn’t a firm cut off at this point in the year, but it’s still early! Feel free to reach out with any additional questions you may have on the process to have your fully custom quilt ready for your special occasion.
