Member of the Metaverse

Since 2021 I have been a member of the Leaders Network, an invitation-only group of Facebook business owners. Five hundred of us just returned from a sponsored conference in Washington, DC. This included a meeting with Senator Raphael Warnock’s office!

The conference provided lots of education, libations, and the chance to meet and collaborate with several like-minded business owners.

Blockchains, crypto, Web 3, virtual reality, NFT’s. They’re here. The future is now! Thanks Meta for this nice write up.

High School Football Memories

villa rice quilt

This masterpiece was created for a senior graduating from Villa Rica High School. In the team purple and gold are his varsity letters and lots of memories of his time playing high school football. At first glance it appears that all of the shirts are going different directions when there really is some order as they are all going the same way every other row! The family is of Columbian heritage so the Postobon soccer shirt had to be in twice! The half triangles all around the outside of the quilt show off more purple and gold including 2 ties in the upper corners. The paw on the lower left was from a sock. Also mixed in are some earlier memories: a baby gown, baby cap and early, early artwork, bottom center, Calb (Caleb). To the right is part of a soft brown blankie where you can see the quilting in footballs. Lots of memories all in one place. To get there we start with design, checking with you all along the way. It’s your quilt and needs to end up exactly as you expect!

Irregular Edges and All

irregular edges

Here’s Katrina with a shirt with very irregular edges. At this point she has already prepared it to go into the quilt. Getting it ready includes sewing down the edges, close to the blue, all the way around with a close ziz zag stitch, or applique, on to the yellow fabric. This way the irregular edges stay flat and don’t lift over time. This is 1 of 4 pieces like this that will be added to the wall layout behind her. This way the customer can see how everything will look–irregular edges and all–before we start the sewing!

What a Nice Friend

christmas quilt

This lovely lady is Andrea opening her presents on Christmas Day. “I cried when I opened the quilts” she wrote. “They are so warm and beautiful. What fabulous works of art!!!” Andrea and husband Alex met at UGA and are now university professors in Alabama. They timed our first meeting to coincide with a weekend Braves game. A funny story related to the Braves is that when we were about half way done with her quilts, we received a call from Alex. “As a Christmas present I’d like to pay for Andrea’s quilts,” he said. “When she inquires about her balance, please tell her that, consistent with many small businesses in Atlanta, you are waiving all outstanding balances to celebrate the Braves winning the World Series! (with a straight face, please!)” Suppressing giggles didn’t work, even over the phone, so she caught on early. “Did Alex do that?” she asks. “He owes me” she laughed”. “I did all of the driving back and forth to the games!” The beautiful art on all of the shirts was created by a friend of Andrea’s and environmentalist, Dr. Barbara McDonald. Andrea found out that Dr. McDonald didn’t have any of the t-shirts so of the 2 quilts we made for her she decided to gift this entire quilt to Dr. McDonald! What a nice friend!

The quilt is Freestyle, the quilting is raindrops, the border fabric is a turtle print. You can see a corner of the soft minky back at the top right corner with the teal binding. What’s your vision?

Graduation 2022

graduation quilts

If you are thinking about a special graduation gift in the form of a quilt we would be honored to create it for you. A quilt from personal items makes a very unique present for your graduate to remember school years by. It’s also a great way to preserve lots of memories of school: honors, activities, friends, and sports. Being made from special personal items, we need time to design and make it so that it will be ready in time for when you need it. Getting started earlier than you think is a fabulous idea. It’s just January and its early but we’ve already been working on graduation orders that were received before Christmas. The closer it gets to May, the busier we get and we’d like to make sure that if you need it for a spring graduation, it’s ready on time. Feel free to call to get started or schedule an appointment to come in if you’re in the Atlanta area. We’d love to create something special for you. 678-324-8084

Congratulations Georgia Bulldogs

georgia bulldogs quilt

Congratulations Georgia Bulldogs on winning the national championship. Save your shirts and jerseys sports fans ! We can create something fabulous for you like this with your selected team shirts, in team colors and fabrics, with quilting all over that Uga the bulldog mascot would certainly appreciate–dog bones. Let’s get started! 678-324-8084.

By Design

As part of our design process, we’ll ask a lot of questions to make sure that your quilt turns out exactly as you want it to. Brianna wanted the border to be made up of different color squares including some that matched her home decor. Check! She wanted thin royal blue fabric lines separating the shirts and the outer squares to frame each one. Check! After spending time poring over quilting designs she found one that she liked and a soft orange thread that worked nicely against the blue. We were able to incorporate both. Check! Done and off to her home in D.C.

What’s on your wishlist? If we can sew it, we’ll make it happen, by design!

Extra large and comfy

This handsome guy, Cardo, just picked up his extra large and comfy Christmas present. He drove all the way back to Georgia from Texas to be home for the holidays. His quilt is big at 125″ x 131″ and has all of his high school shirts and jerseys stitched together in to a quilt. The quilting is wolf paws from the high school mascot. Cardo is a sophomore studying agriculture at Texas A&M. He plays lacrosse and also has the important job of being responsible for the care of the official Texas A&M mascot “Reveille” a collie. It was a pleasure to see Cardo again in person. Merry Christmas everyone and thanks Mom Sarita for selecting us to create quilt number 6 for you.
