Consider the look of romance as a way to remember events shared with your significant other! Here we used 2 of the same t-shirts earned from running the Peachtree Road Race and shaped them in to hearts as a testament to the couples love and passion for running together over the years. There are many different ones with shoes and others such as crossing the finish line with your arms raised. The quilting goes through all 4 layers of the quilt. It is decorative, and done in the thread color and design that you like It is functional in that it connects all of the layers and keeps them from shifting.

If you’re a runner you may just have a lot of shirts that you’ve earned enjoying your sport. We don’t have a limit on the quantity that you can included. It’s up to you. Take some time to go through them and pick out the ones that you’d like to include in your quilt. You can still wear them, just in a different way, in the quilt!

A t-shirt quilt can also make a nice gift for that special someone. It takes time to make the gift of different.

First and foremost, what we do is weave memories in the form of t-shirts and clothes into artistic quilts. These can become priceless family heirlooms.  Our distinctive Just T-shirt Quilts tell stories of life. The stories of the quilt are told through t-shirt collections which represent priceless memories. Every quilt is designed by creating a pattern, then cutting and sewing the collection of t-shirts into a beautiful quilt.

Clients come to us with projects from every walk of life. The expectation that the finished product, a personalized, unique quilt, will capture the memories and milestones of life. To do this involves, of course,  cutting up the t-shirts!

 When considering turning your t-shirts into a priceless quilt, it’s worth considering that your vintage t-shirts may be valuable. The market for vintage t-shirts has begun to sizzle. Collectors of all ages are focusing on vintage t-shirts. Like every collector’s market, supply and demand determines price. The t-shirt craze is no exception. Sports, music, graphic, charity, and commemorative event t-shirts are only a few of the genres that are represented in the world of t-shirt collectibles.

The vintage t-shirt collectible market continues to grow. Today appraisal apps such as Legiteem8 are driving the t-shirt collectible market with real time appraisals. Valuable Vintage T-Shirts

We’re entrusted to create a quilt of priceless memories with shirts and clothing that often hold special meaning. Value is in the eye of the beholder, but do know that NASCAR, basketball, championship, and classic rock concert t-shirts are commanding record prices. A 1975 Led Zeppelin North American Tour t-shirt may bring over $400! In addition to t-shirts that are nationally and internationally sought after by vintage t-shirt collectors, there is also a growing demand for regional niche t-shirts from local events.

The Peachtree Road Race, an annual Atlanta, GA event began in the 1970s. It is legendary among runners, and vintage t-shirts from the event are in demand. I recently came upon a vintage Peach Tree Road Race t-shirt at a local estate sale with an asking price of $69. This was an eye-opening experience for me as an artist who regularly cuts up t-shirts to create unique quilts for clients!

The $69 price tag for the vintage Peach Tree Race t-shirt pictured is a far cry from the hundreds of dollars that national event t-shirts are currently demanding. It is just one indication that the demand for vintage t-shirts is blooming!  

Cutting Up Value for a Priceless Heirloom

A unique quilt created with a collection of vintage t-shirts is usually priceless to the person commissioning it. Just be aware that to design, cut and sew a distinctive commemorative or memorial quilt, the value of a vintage shirt that could be worth hundreds may be sacrificed. It may be worth checking the value to make sure that you won’t have any regrets down the road.

Vintage t-shirts are not just old shirts. The squares and shapes of the quilt used to create a treasured family heirloom, in addition to the memories, may have monetary value. It is up to you to decide if the value of the individual t-shirts is worth the result, a family treasure that is priceless or monetary value that can be exchange for cash. Value is in the eye of the beholder!

A Special Valentine Gift

A couple came in with exactly this vision. Two hearts cut from their running shirts and placed in the center with all of their Peachtree shirts; a black background to really set off the shirts; a border color to go with their home decor and go up on a prominent wall in their home. So, we got to work, measured, designed and made it happen. What’s your vision?

CEO “Material”

Over his career Greg Gates proved that he had what it takes to be a Corporate CEO. Five years in a row Mr. Gates was named by Atlanta Magazine as a “Five Star Wealth Manager”. The magazine cited him for providing comprehensive and proactive tax planning for physicians, dentists, and other professionals. A CPA and Principal of PYA Gates Moore, Greg Gates was an active participant in the Peachtree Road Race, a 52-year-old 10K race organized by the Atlanta Track Club.

Now enjoying the fruits of his labor listening to the waves at his oceanside beach house, Mr. Gates wanted a special gift for his two adult children. He reached out to Just TShirt Quilts for a special project to commemorate his many years of participating in the Peachtree Road Race. With boxes of race shirts and entry numbers in storage, Mr. Gates had the idea of two identical commemorative quilts for his two children.

In the designing phase for the two quilts, it was decided that they could be identical yet unique. Using a red, white, and blue color scheme, to symbolize the 4th of July running of the Peachtree Road Race, each commemorative quilt features t-shirts from the annual event. Around the border are the entry numbers from various years. One has the even number years while the other features the odd numbers. In this way each child received an identical gift, yet one that was uniquely theirs.

Over his corporate career, Greg Gates has much to be proud of, however like other avid runners, these races held special memories for him and his family. July 4th John is running his 40th Peachtree Road Race.  Shown is the quilt we created for his birthday from wife, Sally. In 2010 John was injured. While his daughter had run the same race and also had the 2010 shirt, Sally really didn’t want to use a shirt that John hadn’t earned in his quilt. So we got creative and filled the space with a disability graphic and “Out of Commission 2010”to represent the year he was injured. It’s shown on the bottom row.

Sally chose running shoes as the quilting pattern, a patriotic fabric for her border, and a personalized label for the front and the back.

You worked hard for them.  Trust us with your shirts.

Cotton Anniversary

I had to take a look at the list for myself.  I knew about gold for the 50th and that silver was in there somewhere, but didn’t recall – if I ever even knew — where cotton was on the wedding anniversary list. Cotton, Julie informed me is what you give for a second wedding anniversary gift. As in a t-shirt quilt that’s made out of cotton.

Julie’s quilt for husband Jeff (pictured), is made from both of their Peachtree Road Race t-shirts. Julie wanted to use as much of the shirts as possible, so the fill in around the Peachtree artwork came from what was left over.  It works!

In staying with a patriotic theme, as the race is run on the 4th of July, Julie picked out stars for the pattern that is stitched all across her quilt.

We finished it in the nick of time – at 3 pm on her anniversary day.  Julie was able to give it to Jeff that evening and kind enough to email me the picture saying “He loved it”.

I sighed. Another one…gone. The new friendship with Julie and the nice Peachtree quilt gone from my life. Boo hoo (violins and sad music). Oh well, I thought. It’s not mine; and, on a positive note, she did say she was saving her sons shirts to have more t-shirt quilts made some day.  Guess I just have to stop getting so emotionally attached!

AJC Peachtree Road Race Expo

We’ll be at the Expo for the Atlanta Peachtree Road Race. With about 60,000 runners expected this is the largest 10K in the world!  The expo is July 2 – 3, 2012, at the Georgia World Congress Center.  The expo is  free to the public.
